These meatballs are simple to make and absolutely delicious.

Serves 6

• 1 kg minced beef
• 1 1⁄2 kg potatoes, peeled and finely grated
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• 1 egg, whisked
• 3 bunch coriander, finely chopped
• 3 teaspoons cinnamon
• 3 teaspoons dried mint (found in spice section)
• 1 1⁄8 teaspoons salt
• 1 teaspoon black pepper, to taste
• vegetable oil, for frying

Peel and finely grate the raw potatoes, place them in a bowl and sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon salt, set aside.
In a separate large bowl, place minced beef (raw), onion, coriander, egg, cinnamon, mint, salt and black pepper. Potatoes have excess liquids and with this recipe, you need to remove all the excess liquids from this mixture or your meatballs will break apart when you put them in the oil. Put the potatoes in a large kitchen cloth and wring them until they are completely dry. Then add the potatoes with the rest of the ingredients and mix them together. If the mixture is a little sticky you may need to add more potatoes.

With your hand mold the meatball into a small long patty about 5 cm x 2 cm (2-inch x 1/2 inch) then place them on a tray, repeat this until all the mixture is finished. When placing the meatballs on a tray do not allow them to touch each other as they may stick together.

Heat oil in a frying pan or deep fryer and add the meatballs one by one in the pan without touching each other. Flip them over once they are brown and then let the other side brown. Remove onto a serving platter, then repeat this step until all meatballs are finished, then serve.
